Abstract
Introduction: Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is the leading cause of acute respiratory infections and is a major contributor to morbidity and mortality worldwide. Its incidence differs according to country, age, and sex, with important implications for epidemiology, etiology, morbidity, mortality, antibiotic resistance rates, and the economic burden of disease. CAP affects all age groups and remains one of the main reasons for medical consultation and hospital admission, posing diagnostic and therapeutic challenges and contributing to a significant health problem. It is estimated that three out of four consultations for infectious diseases in health facilities are due to acute respiratory conditions, making pneumonia one of the leading causes of death across all stages of life. General objective: To present the clinical case of a 5-year-old female pediatric patient with a history of pneumonia three months earlier managed on an outpatient basis, who is brought to the emergency department with dyspnea, non-quantified fever and productive cough. Conclusions: We report the case of a 5-year-old patient with a recent history of pneumonia treated on an outpatient basis, who presents with unquantified fever, nocturnal diaphoresis and purulent productive cough. The diagnosis of community-acquired pneumonia associated with allergic asthma, with a moderate Pulmonary Score, was established, and the patient showed favorable clinical evolution after initiation of appropriate therapy.
