Abstract
The objective of this research was to analyze the effect of filum terminale sectioning on Chiari I malformation. A documentary methodology with bibliographic support was employed, and through a rigorous review, various scientific publications were evaluated to provide a foundation for the research. It was concluded that patients with Chiari I malformation have other associated diagnoses in most cases, and that this type of malformation is the most common within its classification. To eliminate this condition, there are highly invasive techniques such as suboccipital craniectomy, which, despite eliminating the risk of sudden death or improving the patient's clinical condition, does not address the root cause of the disease, is very aggressive, and can leave permanent sequelae. In contrast, filum terminale sectioning is a minimally invasive intervention used not only to eliminate Chiari I malformation but also for other conditions, most of which are associated with it. The effects of filum terminale sectioning are overwhelmingly positive compared to the few potential drawbacks. Initially, it's important to note that the procedure is minimally invasive, resulting in a small wound. However, infection is possible, requiring careful attention and proper hygiene to prevent complications. Ultimately, filum terminale sectioning offers significant advantages for patients with Chiari I malformation compared to other interventions, considerably improving their quality of life.
