Abstract
Arteriovenous fistulas, commonly abbreviated as AVF, are a type of abnormal connection that forms between arteries and veins, causing blood flow to be diverted from its usual path. These conditions can be caused by surgical procedures performed intentionally, can also arise as a result of an abnormality present at birth, either due to congenital or genetic factors, or can develop as a result of injury or trauma caused by an inadvertent medical intervention, known as iatrogenic trauma. With the exception of fistulas that form as a result of surgical procedures, these conditions are generally considered to be quite rare and uncommon in the population. The difference in pressure between the arterial and venous systems can cause pathological effects that are quite significant in the human body. The severity of these negative effects, which can affect a person's health, depends largely on the specific location of the fistula in the circulatory system. In this activity, a detailed analysis is carried out on the role and importance of the interprofessional team in the assessment and proper management of arteriovenous fistulas.
