Abstract

Dengue is a viral disease transmitted by the bite of female Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes. Objective: To determine the risk factors that influence the incidence of dengue in patients treated at Type C Health Centers in the city of Machala. Methodology: A quantitative, non-experimental, descriptive, cross-sectional methodology was applied, with a population of 229 patients diagnosed with dengue. The data were processed using SPSS through absolute frequencies and percentages, ensuring confidentiality and anonymity. Results: The findings showed a predominance of the 18- to 29-year age group, with 24.5%; a higher frequency among women, with 53.3%; and a prevalence of primary and secondary educational levels. Most cases came from urban areas, especially from Providencia parish. Conclusion: Among the environmental factors, the most notable were the high presence of mosquitoes, exposure to puddles, tires, or containers, water accumulation in yards during the rainy season, and the presence of water containers without frequent control. It is concluded that dengue is associated with urban and peridomestic conditions favorable to the vector.
