Abstract
The present study aimed to determine the prevalence of intestinal parasitosis among cleaning workers in municipal markets in the Ambato canton. The research was conducted using a quantitative approach with a non-experimental, descriptive, and cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 30 workers of both sexes engaged in cleaning activities in municipal markets in the Ambato canton. A survey was administered as a data collection instrument, and the corresponding analyses were performed to identify the presence of intestinal parasites. The study made it possible to determine the frequency of intestinal parasites in the study population, as well as the prevalence of parasitosis and the characteristics of the participants in relation to parasitic infection. The results showed a parasitic infection rate of 73.3%, indicating a high proportion of individuals with some type of intestinal parasitosis. Regarding sex distribution, 67% of the participants were female and 33% were male, with a higher prevalence of parasitic infection observed among female participants. This finding provides information on the presence of intestinal parasitosis in the study population. The high prevalence observed may be associated with occupational exposure to conditions involving frequent contact with waste, contaminated surfaces, and inadequate sanitary and hygienic conditions. The information obtained from this study provides data that may contribute to strengthening prevention, hygiene, and parasite control measures among this occupational group.
