Abstract
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a critical intervention in cases of cardiopulmonary arrest, where a timely response allows for the temporary maintenance of blood circulation and oxygenation until specialized care arrives. In the educational context, teachers play a significant role due to their constant contact with students and their potential to be the first to identify an emergency. The objective of this study was to assess attitudes toward cardiopulmonary resuscitation among secondary school teachers in the Cotopaxi Province Educational District, Pujilí canton. A quantitative, non-experimental, descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted. The sample consisted of 44 teachers, selected through non-probabilistic convenience sampling. Data were collected using the Questionnaire to Assess Attitudes Toward Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, consisting of 15 items distributed across the dimensions of attitude toward training, action regarding CPR, and overall attitude. The results showed a predominance of male participants (65.91%) and those in the 50–59 age group (40.91%). In the training dimension, an unfavorable attitude predominated (75.0%), while in the dimension of action regarding CPR, a moderately favorable attitude prevailed (81.8%). Overall, 56.8% expressed an unfavorable attitude. It is concluded that there is a gap between the willingness to intervene and the preparation needed to respond to an emergency, highlighting the need to strengthen theoretical and practical training in basic life support within the educational context.
